About the role

As we grow we look for ways to evolve and we want to shape our roles around people. So at the moment, this role is focused on the following, and we’re open to how you think we could evolve it 🙂

As a Developer, you’ll be doing custom dev, integrating and coming up with technical solutions for websites (Webflow), eCom (Shopify) and occasional custom apps. You'll mostly be doing the more unique, quirky and creative technical work to support the team who're building the frontend, content and doing design, that includes understanding what a client is trying to achieve on briefs big and small, exploring the smartest way to solve it with the simplest code & reducing dependencies. You care about reflecting the design as closely as possible, and appreciate design feedback to create a refined, on brand user experience.

The majority of the development work is in the frontend (JS/CSS), database config / logic and integrations. You could argue the role is frontend, with some full stack and integration aspects. That's because we regularly integrate with Google Workspace, Zapier, Klaviyo, Hubspot, Mailchimp, Google Tag Manager and range of web/conversion tracking apps, Airtable. You'll be structing databases defining the logic for sorting, filters and integrations with third party tools. You need to be able to learn basics of each platform's APIs and how those tools can improve clients workflows and the users experience.

While you focus on Development, you’ll collaborate with our core team who’ll help manage the client, create engaging copy, identify technical requirements & design. If you’d like to lean into any of those areas we’d be more than happy to make that work for you.

For this role we’re seeking a Developer with 4 or more years experience in frontend development.

If you were here last month you could've been involved in.

  • Participated in a client workshop to understand a clients goals, inspiration and practical requirements for a website rebuild
  • Collaborated with designer Celine on updates to the Merry People product pages - discussing design references, UX pro's/con's, development options & challenges
  • On Tuesdays you co-worked with the team at the Hub Southern Cross. You joined a couple of the team to discuss whether soup is really a meal or not, Celine's bathroom renovations and Rach's search for a rental
  • You joined our Monthly Impact Update where you heard about the month that was. The team celebrated each team member’s “greatest hits”, wins, learnings, and you heard a transparent overview of how we’re tracking financially. We reviewed our strategic goals, projects & reflected on what we should start, stop and continue doing. You heard about details on two pieces of client work the team were particularly proud of.
  • Beck and you worked together on some layout / build quirks for a client supporting people with Cerebral Palsy
  • You attended your fortnightly self-development and coaching session with your manager and walked away with clear feedback on areas you’re thriving in, areas for improvement and goals to work on
  • You worked with Sarah to refine the build of The Sociable Weaver, refining mobile navigation, load speed of key pages and updated the DNS settings to go live
  • Built a new Shopify block for capturing mobile signups to back in stock notifications integrating with two Klaviyo APIs

Projects you could’ve been involved in

Here’s some of the work we’ve done in the last 6 months that you would’ve been involved in.

You can...

Be curious and creative

You’re a proactive self-learner with an understanding of how good design can bring out the best in a brand. You have a hunger for staying across the latest development, integration and UX trends, and can translate your findings into your technical work to deliver high performing websites / apps / eCom. You’re committed to continuous improvement, open to experimenting with new tools and skill building. You know how to ask client’s the right questions to understand the real requirements, and define relevant solutions.

Be strategic and act

You love great digital experiences that presents well and feels good. We know how to meld industry best practice with the magic of our client’s brand to create and implement a kick-butt brand experience. You have a ‘test and learn’ mentality to development, getting a website to a better place to get in-market feedback. You’re passionate about empowering clients with user-friendly logic, databases and tools.

Play smart and lean

You are organised and detail-oriented, and are comfortable in an online environment. You manage your time well and can keep a few plates spinning by prioritising the tasks you have on the go. You know how to use (or open to learning) tools like Webflow, Shopify, G Drive, Slack, Canva and Figma to maximise efficiency, and always stay solution-focused, finding creative - and sometimes scrappy - ways to solve problems.

Use business for good

You are passionate about the role business can play to be a force for good and want to be surrounded by people who feel the same and made it their life’s work!

The kinds of clients you'd be working with

They are passionate about impact, genuinely lovely to work with and value what we do.
